As a guide, I try to give advance notice about fishing opportunities.
Trying to provide the edge you need to catch fish on the Truckee.
Mentioned the Carpenter Ant emergence in a post about three weeks early.
(But I thought about them all winter).
Gave folks plenty of time to tie or buy, the flies needed.
Called it within a day or two of the fact here in Truckee.
(Sat with my buddy Dan, and tied a dozen Ants the night before they started flying.)
(Tied a few drowned ones too.)
Almost as tuned in on the launch as the bloody ants…..
BUT……..
I never have an idea how long the emergence will last.
Could be a day or three (like this year) or, drawn out for a week or more.
They can come in droves, or trickle…
Chilly temps seem to have curtailed their emergence this year.
The next very warm day will be a week out…..so we will see…………it could still happen….
After years at this game, all I know, is to try to be ready.
So……..here is the next bug brief.
Green Drakes are coming!
Thinking that they will be as early as the Ants (almost 2+weeks early)…..Maybe buy/tie now.
Let you know when I see them…………
Start fishing the nymph now, they’re starting to show up in the bug seine.
The chilly temps have delayed the little yellow grass hoppers emergence as well.
But get a few, in case they appear when you are out next time.
