The water released from lake Tahoe, into the Truckee river is very warm these days…
66 deg.+
Great for river rafters…..
Not so great for fishing.
Deeper in the canyon there is colder water to be found.
Mornings are best right now.
Say, dawn to 11:00.
Pocket water can be fished mid-day for some little guys.
Some larger fish moving about near dark/after too.
Seeing some golden stones flying in the PM.
Along with little yellow Sallies.
Amber Caddis in the AM, green in the PM.
PMDs are active early/mid-morn.
Baetis are popin’ steady everyday.
Hoppers are on the menu too.
Little yellow ones, and bigger Sierra Blue’s as well. Sz 14-10
Try a Burks spent Hopper.
If you treat these fish like they may eat your fly this drift, you may be ready for the take.
But as fast as these fish are getting, you may not be ready anyway……
A jolt up your arm, and then nothing…..
Of course, keep trying enough, and it will happen.
