Early risers….

This is the time of year to get up early…Race the sun.
The nights are cooler, about 38 deg.
The water is fairly chilly at dawn, 60+, nice…..
The fish (especially Bows) seem to feel better in the morning flow.
Much more receptive than in the afternoon.
The bugs aren’t doing much though.
Fish emergers, and streamers before the light hits the water.
There are maybe a couple of rises to dries, if you are sharp eyed.
These fish are very drift sensitive, both above and below water..
Which is to say, they know what the bug should look like, and where it should present in the water column.
It is time to stay away from Bling….Beads/flash in your fly choice.
Some Caddis, a few Golden stones, and the occasional PMD.
Water color is green/clear.
Recreational flows are happening for the floaters. 350+cfs above town.
If you leave the water by 10:00 AM, you won’t be bothered by them.
The fish are mostly done by then anyway…….
A down-canyon breeze, lower in the canyon for about an hour near dawn, can be brisk.
Lakes are getting low, creeks too.
A tough Summer continues…but we’re still havin’ fun…..
