Fall……

First frost this morning……..
People are getting antsy up here (critters too.).
Heard the rattling machine that installs the snow poles on the side of our streets.
That only happens once a year, Fall!
The leaves will change quickly now.
Water temps continue to slowly drop.
58-60 at dawn, about 64 at the end of the day.
Releases are down a bit, rafting is about done. WooHoo!!!!!
Fish are starting to get grabby again, although they are fast grabs……
If you are not already expecting a take, you’ll be too late.
October Caddis, the LAST big bug of the season is starting to go off.
The Pupa is the stage they are looking at mostly.
A smattering of other small Caddis, and a few PMDs.
Some very small dark Baetis, the occasional BWO as well.
Isonichia are doing their undulating mating flight.
Both the large Sierra Blue sz4+, and smaller yellow Grass Hoppers sz8. are happening too.
If we don’t get a hard freeze, this hopper thing could go on for a while…..
Evenings are getting better too.
What has been a small window of opportunity, is slowly getting bigger.
Swinging a streamer is more productive.
Took my Switch rod out with a skagit line, all day.
Good practice for Steelhead…..
Getting pretty slippery, studs are a good call.
It’s been a while since I used the P word….(Like 4 months.).
But it’s just about “perfect” again.
Time to slow down, and step into a stream.
