Fishing……..

Had a return client out yesterday, a really nice guy with some game.
We hit spot on the Truckee that we had fished before and done well.
I went to water a bush while he fished.
I heard a yelp, and returned in a hurry to find him walking a fish around.
This was not your normal fish, but a Walter class toad.
There was no head shake, no Olympic jumping, no huge runs……
He just wouldn’t come to hand.
Finally, he settled into a hole and stayed there.
Tried playing the leader like a tight guitar string, which it sounded like….
Tried pulling from every angle, even waded out almost to him, to talk.
Better part of 10 minutes we danced.
Then the leader parted on a sharp rock.
You might think that we were disappointed…..
But, it’s good to know there are fish like this in the river.
We get used to having our way all the time, with everything.
My client and I will always remember the fish we never saw…….
May have to go back for another visit, today…….
