Thin crusties on the ground today…no real accumulation of snow.
Chilly and blustery tomorrow…(I’d wait….)
An east wind Sat. (Which seems to hamper fishing…..I’d still wait.)
Then…….another week of fishy conditions.
The water temps have been steady at 47-50 deg., green/clear.
Flows out of Tahoe have increased a bit.
Below Trout creek, the Truckee river, is open all winter, catch and release only.
So have at it!
The Flickers have flown on…
Heard some Sand-hill Cranes flying over, night-before last.
Generally, they are the last to go south….so, Winter should be coming soon….
Do not stand, or park under big pine trees….the Squirrels are bombing cones.
A 3-4 Lb cone, from forty or so feet up, will leave a mark….
They’ve been at this for a while, but now it’s crazy…..
Do not leave your car unlocked, as bears have mastered pulling the door handle…
Several were locked in cars over-night, while looking for bed-time snacks.
Hard on upholstery…..
We have pretty much started the Winter menu….
Dark Baetis sz20, BWOs sz18, Midges sz20-22.
Mid morning to mid afternoon is best.
Very few Stones in the seine, but still might work. (Try dark second instar size.)
Hit them on the nose, with a good drift, maybe a few drifts….
Fishing wise, not much will change for a few months.
Quiet waters, small bugs, and spooky slow-thinking trout.
Bring some good fleece and a wind-breaker.
Fingerless gloves and a fleece hat is a good call.
Double socks are nice….
Always bring back-up clothes in case…..
The aquatic vegetation die-off makes it S-l-i-p-p-e-r-y.
Studs are recommended…
Enjoy your time out there, I’ll see you on the water.
